The Seventh Month
Here we are at the end of month number seven. How about that? We’ve experienced some pretty big growth this past month.
For those of you just joining us and wondering what’s going on, this is Build Internet’s monthly review. I always used to like when blogs shared behind the scenes traffic information with their readers. These month reviews aim to do just that as a candid summary of our monthly highlights.
Traffic and Stats
June turned out to be our biggest traffic month yet. It’s encouraging to see the steady climb. This milestone brought us just shy of a quarter million pageviews in a month. This is probably because of our recent change in post frequency to five unique posts a week.
As you can see above, we’re still waiting on Greenland to help complete the Western Hemisphere. Just under 180 different countries frequented the site during June.

Top Posts and Content
We’re excited to see how continuing to post five times a week will affect our traffic in the long run. So far the articles have been received very well. Our week long “Pricing Bootcamp” was re-tweeted all across the internet, and it generated some great discussion in the end. Based on the success of our first week long series, Sam and I are already planning the next one. We’re thinking a Photoshop week, but it’s open for suggestions.
Here are the top posts from the month of June. I’m beginning to think that jQuery is the only thing we should write about.
- Sliding Boxes and Captions with jQuery
- How to Make a Smooth Animated Menu with jQuery
- Animate Image Filling Up Using jQuery
- Supersized 2.0 Released – Now with Transitions & Controls
- How to Make a Slideshow with a Transparent PNG Frame
Our First Interview
One of the coolest things to happen this month was being interviewed for the first time. Kayla from Webitect contacted Sam and I a couple weeks ago and you can see the resulting interview on her blog. Kayla has a great up and coming blog that should definitely be on your radar — and I’d say that even if she hadn’t interviewed us!
Subscribers and Followers
This month was a good boost for numbers all around. We’re up from 2700 last month to a new high of about 3500 RSS subscribers. Not a subscriber? For your convenience, here’s a nicely placed link to our feed. Go on, it’s easy!
Twitter has one of the highest rates of growth lately. Our followers took a jump from 1700 last month to 2140 , and was one of our top referrers of the month.
It’s official. Build Internet is now in the top 10k blogs on Technorati, and has a badge to prove it.
Adsense and BuySellAds
BuySellAds has been going steady, despite a sudden unexplained drop in estimated impressions. The real excitement this month actually came from Adsense for a change. In the last week of the month I did some reorganization of ad placements and sizes as an experiment. The results were surprisingly worth it, with an increase of 4-500% revenue and clicks. For the first time since the start of the blog, we are beginning to pull in double digit figures per day.
Now I’m hoping that this stride will continue in the coming weeks, because that could very well lead to a budget for paid guest posts. The focus here is always the content; we’ll be experimenting over the next month with a balance of ads that doesn’t detract from the content. We’re not in the business of making junk affiliate/ad posts for the sake of a few extra dollars, so we’ll tread carefully.
Life in the Office
As I mentioned in the previous month review, this summer Sam and I decided to move get an office for One Mighty Roar. Working full time weeks on web design is absolutely fantastic, and we couldn’t be happier with the results so far.
Don’t worry, there will be a full post highlighting the office coming up soon. We just finished painting the door yesterday, and we still have a couple more purchases to make before we’re ready to show the full space. In the mean time, here’s something to hold you over.
One Mighty Roar Launches
In other related news, we’ve officially launched the main site for our web design company/blog network hub. It’s been a long time coming, and we’re happy to finally see it up and running. Sam has detailed the design process in his latest post for those interested in our thought process.
This also means that we’re open for projects. Want to work with us? We’d love to hear from you.
Things Look Promising
So thank you for another phenomenal month, we’re excited for what the rest of the summer will bring. Sam and I are working on a couple things that should make for interesting articles in the long run.
July is shaping up to be a great month. Keep in mind, we’re always looking for the next great guest post to feature. Interested in sharing with the web community? Get in touch and we’ll work something out.
Also, we’re launching another blog shortly. You’ll find out more in a week or two.
Keeping on Internet-ing,
Zach & Sam Dunn
